LocateADoc Q&A
When (your child) is grown up and happy enough to call you and say, I have found my passion and I love what I do or I love the person I have become.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
I want every day to be Groundhogs Day (because every day is so fantastic, it just keeps repeating and is better every time!)
As a physician, what is your greatest asset to your community?
Many of us are lazy by nature. Yes, we can at times play hard, but I agree with the statement, Why do you want to put off until tomorrow, what you can do today? I apply this principle to my work. Why put off caring for patients, meeting the surgical goals, perfecting the reconstructive plan, establishing worldwide recognition, mentoring other physicians and helping mankind, why wait- lets get to work!
What sets you apart from other doctors?
I have always needed to understand physiology and structural mechanics. If I could understand how the heart works or the molecular structure of DNA, not only could I remember the data, but applied to contextual anatomy, I could know how structures work and how they must maintain their positioning in space and react to stresses and loads. With this innate knowledge I can see in 3-D. As I benefit from this knowledge, as a plastic surgeon I can trancend the simple mimicing cosmetic surgeon practice. The only one we should be mimicing is God!
noise maker
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I do many types of surgery, restoration and aesthetic in my field; hair, face, skin, breasts, every part of the body! But my favorite is reconstructive procedure- an operation on an area of the body that was missing or damaged for an acquired or congenital problem or from malignancy or from added years; For instance- a Nose, burned off, cleft palate,or breast- mastectomy.
Orthogonal medical
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire?
Maybe 67, when I can get full social security and medicare- but only if I want or have to retire. My patients will probably fire me before then!
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Life may test us, but it WILL NOT defeat us. Embrace the present and there will be enough, Do not invest in dark clouds, but rather invest in yourself, your plot of land. Teach your children the genius of making a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others. Learn how to live in wonder and joy- start today!

Introducing ARTAS robotic hair restoration
Medical Director of Utah Hair Restoration
Heres what happens when internationally recognized hair restoration surgeons Mark D. Weaver, MD and Wayne B. Christiansen, DO collaborate - precision hairline restoration via the ARTAS™ robotic HTS.
WCI initially approached AP to document one of their live hair transplant surgeries using the ARTAS robotic system. As part of the technician training for ARTAS robotic hair restoration at WCI, Dr. Weaver needed a resource to capture the surgery for later inclusion in online technician training.
For prospective patients of WCI who asked that the surgery be captured, AP worked with the doctors to develop a visual approach that would help show patients: before/after photos; all aspects of the procedure; amount of time involved in having the surgery (not including consultation or planning session); where the ARTAS surgery was performed in relation to what was being done on the patients head at that time; and get closeups of the ARTAS process.
Using two Canon 1DCs (4K HD), Canon 5D III, Sigma 120-300 OS and Zeiss CP.2 lens systems, we captured 14 hours worth of video including several interviews with hair restoration patient Brian Dutcher. We took 8(!) microphones – including 4x Sennheiser Evo wireless lapels – and a Zoom H6 recorder to capture all the audio and still found time for sweep and slider shots. Along with two decked out 2013 MacBook Pros with 1TB and 750GB hard drives, RAID storage, external monitor and powered sound speakers, we had a small studio right there in the operating room.
